Landing areas for track and field athletics

Composition of high jump landing areas
High jump and pole vault landing areas of high quality production are essential for the athletes to land safely. The higher the athletes jump the more important the cushioning properties become which allow a soft landing. These are largely dependent on the various foam core systems:
- Mono module system: The mats with mono module system have rather harder landing characteristics. They are, for example, suitable for school sports as the jumping height in this context is usually somewhat lower.
- Hollow chamber system: The hollow chamber system contains hollow channels that run through the foam blocks. Because the air can escape more quickly on landing than with the mono module system, this variant offers a softer impact.
- Double hollow chamber system: An extra soft landing is achieved by the double hollow chamber system, in which the channels for air escape are arranged crosswise to each other. The high jump and pole vault landing areas with this system are suitable for the highest demands.
On top of the foam core system there is also a foam anti-wear mat. In order to prevent it from damage, it is covered with a fabric mesh. artec® has landing areas in its programme with sliding as well as with non-sliding fabric mesh. The movable mesh fabric has the advantage that it adapts better to the spikes of the shoes. In case of heavy use and strain on the mat, this variant is preferable due to its longer durability.

The product range of our landing areas comprise of different high jump and pole vault landing areas which, for a start, distinguish themselves in their product names GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE. These names stand for different technical designs which vary as follows:

All the above mentioned technical designs (with the exception of EasyJump) can be alternatively delivered with an additional PE slatted frame so no separate base platform for the landing areas is needed. In this case the heights of the landing areas listed below increase by 10 cm each.
High jump landing areas in different sizes
Our high jump landing areas are delivered in the following standard sizes (w x l x h):

The last-mentioned variants with 6 x 4 m and 70 cm or respectively 80 cm height are certified by World Athletics and can be used in national and international competitions. It depends on the intended use and the associated jumping height, which minimal mat size is required:
- Up to a jumping height of 1.60 m: 400 x 250 x 50 cm
- Up to a jumping height of 2.00 m: 500 x 300 x 50 cm
- Up to a jumping height of 2.50 m: 600 x 400 x 70 cm
Pole vault landing areas for training and competitions
Our pole vault landing areas are delivered in the following standard sizes (w x l x h):
- 700 x 500 x 80 cm
- 800 x 600 x 80 cm (certified by World Athletics)
- 1200 x 600 x 80 cm
The pole vault landing area with 7 x 5 m is suitable for a jumping height from 1.60 m to 4.00 m. For higher jumps the right choice is a landing area with the dimensions of 8 x 6 m. This variant is also certified by World Athletics and is therefore the optimal choice for use in (international) competitions. The landing area with 12 x 6 m can also be jumped upon from both ends.
Comprehensive accessories for landing areas
Protection against weather conditions
Apart from landing areas themselves, our customers also receive all accessories for the mats from artec®. As our landing areas are designed for outdoor use, a special focus is placed on protecting the high jump and pole vault landing areas against weather and environmental conditions, as well as vandalism. For this purpose, we offer a wide range of products from our own design and production:
- Base platform: The base (slatted) platform serves as perfect basis for the landing areas and protects them from underneath (e.g. from moisture). The use of a base platform also prevents the mat from slipping. artec® manufactures the platforms in various designs: made of wood, of aluminium or made of wood and aluminium. In the premium version, the base platforms have a profile spacing of 10 cm, in the easytec – and thus cost-optimised – version, the profile spacing is 30 cm.
- Rain cover: The rain cover serves to cover the mats and provides protection against rain and dirt.
- Protective cover: In addition to protection against weather conditions, the protective cover has the advantage of being vandalism-proof. The protective cover for high jump and pole vault landing areas is available in stationary and mobile versions and is made of durable aluminium. The stationary version has an up-and-over door. The mobile safety cover can also be optionally equipped with a lowering and a steering device.
